Celebrating courage, achievement and lasting influence
At Manor Wood School, we believe that Black history should be celebrated, explored and recognised throughout the year, not only during one month.
To mark Black History Month in October, students in Black Panthers Class learned about inspirational figures including Nat Turner, Nanny of the Maroons, Ruby Bridges and Madam C. J. Walker. They also explored the La Amistad rebellion, considering the experiences of those involved and its lasting place in history. The work gave students opportunities to ask thoughtful questions, carry out research, select key information and communicate their learning creatively. Their finished posters show care, curiosity and pride in presentation.

“Black history is part of our shared history. Learning about it helps us understand courage, justice, identity and change.”

Students worked independently and collaboratively to turn their research into clear, informative and eye-catching displays.
Students selected key information, organised ideas and presented their learning with care.

Celebrating our students
The posters are now proudly displayed around school. We are extremely proud of the students’ enthusiasm, creativity and thoughtful work. Well done, Black Panthers Class!
